Marcus Books is a Black-owned, family-owned bookstore located in Oakland, California, and holds the distinction of being the oldest Black-owned bookstore in the United States. Founded in 1960 by Drs. Julian and Raye Richardson, the store has served as a vital literary and cultural hub for generations of readers, scholars, and activists.
