Founded in 2017 by LaSaia Wade, Brave Space Alliance (BSA) is the first Black- and trans-led LGBTQ+ center on Chicago’s South Side. BSA provides affirming, culturally competent, for-us-by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals, with a focus on Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. Their mission is rooted in four pillars: Health, Housing, Food, and Identity.
BSA offers a range of services including a community pantry, The Dignity Suite (providing gender-affirming items), support groups, housing initiatives, and employment resources. The organization also engages in advocacy, mutual aid, and community organizing to uplift and empower marginalized voices.
